The herbal formulae for resuscitation with warm herbs are indicated to wind stroke, direct cold attack, phlegm syncope
and others belonging to cold closure syndrome. When cold dampness and phlegm turbidity go up and block the clear
orifices and disturb mental activities, it results in falling down in a fit, loss of consciousness, aphasia, lock jaw, white
tongue coating and slow pulse. Opening orifice method with warm property should be prescribed. Aromatic herbs for
opening orifices such as Su He Xiang (storax), She Xiang (musk), Bin Pian (borneol) and An Xi Xiang (benzoin) are
usually used as the main part of formula which combine with Ding Xiang (cloves), Chen Xiang (eagle wood), Tan Xiang
(Sandal wood) and Mu Xiang (dutchmanspipe root) promote the flow of qi; Bi Bo (Long pepper) and Xi Xin (asarum
root) can be added to warm meridians to dispel cold evii. The representative formulae are Su He Xiang Wan (Storax
Pill) and Zi Jing Din (Purple Gold Troche).
