INGREDIENTS:
Bai Zhu (Bighead atractylodes rhizome) l2g
Fu Shen (Poria with host wood) l2g
Huang Qi (Astragalus root) l5g
Long Yang Rou (Longan ariel) 9g
Suan Zao Ren (Wild jujuba seed(stir-fried, shell removed) l2g
Hong Shen (Ginseng) 6g
Mu Xiang (Aucklandia root) 6g
Zhi Gan Cao (Roasted licorice root) 5g
Dang Gui (Chinese angelica root) 109
Yuan Zhi (Polygala root,honey-parched) 6g
DIRECTIONS: Decoct all the herbs with the addition of fresh ginger 5 pieces and 6 red date in water for oral
administration.
EFFECTS: Replenishing qi and tonifying the blood, invigorating the spleen and nourishing the heart.
INDICATIONS:
(1)
Weakness of both the spleen and heart caused by deficiency of qi and blood due to over thinking and worries,
marked by palpitation or severe palpitation, amnesia, insomnia, night sweats, deficiency heat, poor appetite, general
debility, sallow complexion, pale tongue with thin and whitish coating, thready and moderate pulse.
(2) Syndrome of failure of the spleen to control the blood manifested by metrorrhagia, metrostaxis, preceded
menstruation, prof use blood loss in light color, or continuous dripping of menstruation of hemafecia, etc.
A
NALYSIS OF FORMULA: This is a common formula for impairment of the heart and spleen. It stresses on
replenishing qi to promote the blood formation. Huang Qi (Astragalus root) and Hong Shen (ginseng) as the principal
herbs reinforce the middle, benefit qi and promote the generation of the blood. Suan Zao Ren (Wild jujuba seed), Long
Yan Rou (long an ariel), Dang gui (Chinese angelica) all tonify the blood, harmonize the nutrient qi, nourish the heart and
tranquilize the mind, and they are assistant herbs. Bai Zhu  (Bighead atractylodes rhizome) and Mu Xiang (aucklandia)
strengthen the spleen and regulate qi to avoid the stagnation of qi; Fu Shen (poria with hostwood) and Yuan Zhi
(polygala root) harmonize the heart and kidney, tranquilize the mind;Sheng Jiang (fresh ginger) and Da Zao (red date)
strengthen the spleen and harmonize the stomach, and all these herbs are adjuvant herbs. Roasted licorice root is a
dispatcher herb with effect of replenishing qi, harmonizing the middle and mediation all of herbs.
This formula is often used for deficiency of both the heart and spleen as seen in such cases as neurosis, bleeding of
gastric and duodenal ulcer, uterine bleeding, thrombopoenic purpura and plastic anemia, etc.
