Herbal Medicine  for Anthelmintis

Herbs with the main effects of expelling or killing parasites are called anthelmintics.

Anthelmintics are mainly used to treat ascariasis, enterobiasis, cestodiasis, ancylostomiasis and other parasite diseases.
Indigestion, abdominal pain, helminthemesis, parasite excretion, sallow complexion fever due to enterositosis and other
symptoms are often seen in clinical practice.

Corresponding anthelmintics should be respectively selected according to different species of parasites. Colic due to
enterositosis should be treated mainly with herbs for relieving colic caused by parasites, and then mainly with herbs for
expelling parasites after illness is alleviated. In addition, anthelmintics should be taken by patients with empty stomach or
in appropriate compatibility with herbs for purgation to expel parasites out of the body. They should be used in
combination with herbs for removing stagnated food to treat food retention; and with herbs for supplementing Qi and
strengthening the spleen to treat weakness of the spleen and stomach.

Some of the anthelmintics are toxic, therefore, attention should be paid attention to the dosage. Pregnant women, the old
and weak should be careful when using them.
