The main effects of these types of herbs are clearing away heat of deficiency type and reducing hectic fever due to Yin
deficiency. They are indicated for the syndromes of fever due to Yin deficiency, hectic fever, or deficiency of body fluid after
febrile diseases caused by deficiency of liver and kidney-yin and hyperactivity of the minis trial fire, manifested by nocturnal
fever and lingering lower grade fever. In clinical practice, these drugs are often used in combination with the Yin reinforcing
and heat-clearing herbs, such as Di Huang (rehmannia root), Xuan Shen (scrophularia root) and Zhi Mu (anemarrhena rhizome.)
