2.4.  Heat-Clearing and Detoxication


Most herbs described in this section are cold in property which acts on the blood system. The herbs have the effects of
expelling the pathogenic heat from the ying and blood division and are chiefly indicated for the syndromes of persistent high
feyer, restlessness, and delirium, dry and deep red tongue, flooding of blood heat and wind syndrome caused by extreme heat.
Some of these drugs can also nourish Yin and promote the generation of body fluid, and be used to treat Yin deficiency and
insufficiency of body fluid.

These herbs are chiefly indicated for the syndromes of the invasion of the ying and blood divisions by pathogenic heat. If the
pathogenic heat coexists in the ying and blood systems, the herbs must be used in combination with clearing heat and purging
fire herbs to clear away heat in both systems. In addition, in cases of heat in the blood and the production of body fluid is
